2 Personal Example of Internet Use

Here's a recent example of convenient use of the internet by a senior.Following on a recent change in Irish budget ruling regarding non-payment of DIRT tax, whereby the revenue have issued application forms through the banks.Follow the usual Q in the bank, obtain a copy from the nice teller, proceed homewards and discover that in fact you need a second form becuase hey presto you have a second savings account.Saving your remaining hair, switch on your computer, go on-line, download and print another form, readily available from the Revenue website.
Enter http://www.revenue.ie/ and click on the DIRT section.

Aha, but try getting a bus pass extension for Northern Ireland - no downloadable forms - they send it in the post (still waiting!).

"Free Travel Pass holders wishing to avail of the All Ireland Free Travel scheme within Northern Ireland must first obtain a Senior SmartPass card. To get a Senior SmartPass card you must fill in application form (FTNI1). (It is not possible to get this form online, to get a form you must contact your Social Welfare Local Office or the Social Welfare LoCall Leaflet Line on 1890 20 23 25)". http://www.citizensinformation.ie/categories/social-welfare/social-welfare-payments/extra-social-welfare-benefits/free_travel

Then you have to BRING it to your local social security office with a photo, your existing bus pass, ID, and proof of residence!!

Now, why couldn't they just say 'all free travel passes for the Republic are valid in Northern Ireland' ??
